Redwood Library and Athenaeum is the oldest lending library in the United States. A National Historic Landmark, the library was established in 1747 “for the sole purpose of propagating virtue, knowledge, and useful learning…having nothing in view but the good of mankind.” It’s been in continuous use since opening its doors in 1750.
The Redwood Library and Athenaeum is open to the public Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 9:30-5:30; Tuesday – Thursday, 9:30 to 8:00; and Sundays, 1:00-5:00. For additional information, visit the library’s website.
